I provided formal training as a 'mentor' for new tutors (2013-15). This involved observing tutorials, moderating marking, providing feedback on essay comments, and running the following 'professional development seminars' at Edinburgh:
5-Minute Philosophy Skills
I spend the first 5 minutes of my tutorials discussing a key skill that students need to develop for essay writing, and for doing philosophy more generally. This has received good feedback from students (see righthand column) and a similar format is now used by many tutors at Edinburgh. You can see an example of the handouts and study skills I use (in this case for a 10 week 1st year undergraduate course) here.

Some Student Testimonials
“Natalie is the best philosophy tutor I’ve had. She’s really friendly and approachable so everyone feel[s] comfortable to get involved in the discussion. She really helps to clarify the lectures and draw out the key issues, and her small group discussion structure is helpful so we all share ideas.”
